CIVIC AFFAIRS IN KANSAS CITY: ESTABLISHING THE “18TH AND VINE” AS A HISTORICAL AREA
Kansas City

Mayor Richard Berkley and community officials and organizers celebrate the progress being made in establishing the "18th and Vine" area of Kansas City, Missouri as an historical district.
This photo was taken by one of my friends and business associates with whom I attended numerous civic events in the Kansas City metro area during the 1980s.

The area has become a very successful tourist attraction and is full of historical galleries, centers and features related to ethnic nature of the area during the past century. Since then, numerous other areas have grown in and around the area and have further broadened the interests of the initial project. Kansas Citian are deserving of the pride in their community; it has improved the overall economy of the entire downtown area of Kansas City.

To celebrate the 2008 Major League Baseball All Star Game, which took place in Yankee Stadium, in its final season, on July 15, 2008, Major League Baseball launched "Statues on Parade." Forty-two replicas of the Statue of Liberty were stationed around the city leading up to the game–each uniquely designed with bold graphics and colors featuring each of the 30 Major League Baseball clubs, the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Giants, the American League, the National League, four All-Star statues and statues commemorating the final season of Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium. The 8½ feet tall, 250-pound statues are made of resin and rest on a 530-pound cement base.

The Kansas City Royals statue stood outside One Liberty Plaza at 165 Broadway.

Kansas City Chiefs: Quarterback Matt Cassel Is Unquestioned Leader Now
I really can’t believe I’m about to make this statement.  The Chiefs have an unquestioned leader in Matt Cassel . Sometimes you grow into a leader.  Sometimes you lead by example.  Sometimes leadership is thrust upon you by an uncontrolled circumstance such as having an emergency appendectomy.  No matter the circumstance, Matt Cassel became the leader every Chief fan wanted by displaying courage …
